Blue Tongue Berries is a Host Member of WWOOF Australia - VM262
Without the wonderful assistance from the Willing Workers on Organic Farms (WWOOF) movement, farming at Blue Tongue Berries would be much harder and nowhere near as much fun! We've been a Wwoof host since 2011 and have loved meeting people from all around the world and sharing our stories.
Information for Farmhand Wwoofers
Location: We live on a 20-acre organic blueberry farm located near Seymour in Central Victoria. The property is only one hour north of Melbourne and can be easily accessed via train or freeway. The farm overlooks the stunning Tallarook Ranges and is a short distance from the Goulburn River. A fully serviced town of over 6000 people is only 5 minutes away and includes a variety of shops, restaurants, entertainment and is on the main train line between Melbourne and Sydney. The region is primarily known for its wineries, fruit production and horse stud farms.
Lifestyle: We believe in self-sufficient living and work towards producing our own food, power, water and fuel for heating. We are completely off the grid and run a hybrid solar and wind power system. Our main building encompasses a passive heating and cooling strawbale design.
Primary Production: We farm high quality organic blueberries and sell to the local market. We also produce seasonal fruit and vegetables, free-range eggs, lamb and also have pet alpacas. Seasonal farm jobs may include: picking, pruning, weeding, brush cutting, fertilising, mulching, propagating, irrigating, preserving, value add cooking, firewood harvesting and helping with livestock.
Facilities and Accommodation: To provide our guests and wwoofers with their own space and independence during their stay, we have set up several buildings on the farm including - The "Cantina" a cafe style dinning room for guests and wwoofers containing our farm gate kitchen and store. We provide all meals for wwoofers. Farmstay 5 "The Bungalow" is a small self contained hut near our fruit and vegetable garden next to the dam. The bungalow has a double bed, single bed, kitchenette, outhouse bathroom with composting toilet and its own off-grid solar power system. This building would suit a couple or two single wwoofers. A caravan next to the bungalow has an additional double bed for extra wwoofers. The "Casita" is a small weatherboard house overlooking the blueberries that contains two of our Farmstays. This building is reserved for our Airbnb guests but is occasionally used as Wwoofers quarters in the busy season. Our farm is connected to the NBN, a fast unlimited internet connection.
Preferences: No children or pets please. We don't usually cater for special dietary requirements and would prefer visitors with adventurous tastebuds. We are open most of the year including over the Christmas/New Year's period. Our blueberry season is over summer but we also have off season farm jobs. Musicians, yogis and food lovers most welcome.
To cover your “room and board” during your stay at Blue Tongue Berries, we require you to contribute by helping on the farm for approximately 5 hours per day (i.e. inline with the Wwoof exchange policy). Our starting times on the farm vary based on the season, but are generally between 6 and 9 am.
